Chaos in Parliament BJP Questions Congress Over Alleged George Soros Connection

Fiery exchanges in the Rajya Sabha led to adjournments as BJP President JP Nadda questioned Congress over its alleged connection with billionaire George Soros, accusing the opposition of destabilizing the country and undermining parliamentary decorum.

Chaos in Parliament BJP Questions Congress Over Alleged George Soros Connection

The Rajya Sabha witnessed yet another disruption on Thursday as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) escalated its confrontation with the Congress, alleging a controversial link between the opposition party and billionaire philanthropist George Soros. The fiery session led to an adjournment, marking a continuation of the turmoil seen throughout the week.

The Core of the Debate

The uproar began when BJP President Jagat Prakash Nadda raised pointed questions about the nature of the Congress party’s association with George Soros. Speaking in the House, Nadda remarked,
"The country wants to know what Sonia Gandhi’s relationship with Soros is."

His comments drew sharp reactions from Congress members, leading to heated exchanges and subsequent disruption of proceedings.

Allegations by the BJP

Nadda accused the Congress of being a "puppet" of Soros, alleging that the billionaire's financial contributions were aimed at destabilizing the country. He stated,
"The Soros who donates billions of dollars to destabilize this country has found a puppet in the Congress, which raises his voice and destabilizes India. This is unacceptable and should be condemned."

He also criticized current Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge for his remarks against Vice President and Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar. Kharge had earlier described Dhankhar as the “biggest disruptor” of the Upper House, prompting the BJP to accuse the opposition of undermining parliamentary decorum.

Defense of the Chairman

Defending Chairman Dhankhar, Nadda dismissed Kharge’s criticisms as “objectionable and contemptuous,” arguing that questioning the Chairman’s rulings damages the sanctity of the parliamentary process. He asserted that such actions set a dangerous precedent and undermine democratic institutions.

"Criticizing the Chairman is akin to contempt of the House itself. The Congress must reflect on its behavior and stop disrupting proceedings under baseless pretenses," Nadda said.

Congress Pushback

In response, Congress leaders continued to defend their stance, reiterating Kharge’s claims that the opposition was being stifled in the House. The Leader of the Opposition had earlier alleged that the Chairman’s conduct was partial and hindered parliamentary debate. Kharge remarked,
"The Chairman’s actions have hurt the dignity of India. He has been the biggest disruptor of the Upper House, forcing us to bring a no-confidence motion."

Parliament Adjourned Amid Uproar

The Parliament’s winter session has seen continuous adjournments over these contentious issues. On Wednesday, proceedings were disrupted as the BJP demanded clarity on the alleged Congress-Soros nexus and the no-confidence motion filed by the opposition against Chairman Dhankhar.

During Thursday’s session, BJP leaders reiterated their demands for transparency, with Nadda stating,
"For two days, our members have been raising the question: What is the relationship between Sonia Gandhi and George Soros? The Congress owes an explanation to the nation."

Broader Implications

The escalating confrontation between the ruling BJP and the Congress has paralyzed legislative business, with three bills listed for consideration in both Houses still awaiting debate. This political stalemate highlights deeper fissures between the two leading parties as they gear up for the upcoming general elections.

The allegations surrounding George Soros have added a controversial international dimension to the ongoing parliamentary debates, sparking further questions about foreign influence and accountability in Indian politics.

As Parliament reconvenes, all eyes will be on whether constructive discussions can resume or if political brinkmanship will continue to dominate the session.
